Rs. 210 Million Beautification Project Launched in Hassanabdal

The Punjab government has launched a Rs. 210 million beautification project to upgrade the historic city of Hassanabdal and improve facilities for Sikh pilgrims. The city holds religious significance for Sikhs due to the presence of Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib and receives visitors from around the world twice each year.

Assistant Commissioner Ahsan Ali said the project aims to improve civic infrastructure and prepare the city for upcoming religious events, including the Baisakhi festival in April and other annual gatherings. He said authorities have initiated multiple development works to improve both functionality and appearance of the city ahead of the pilgrimage season.

The project includes shifting utility services of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) underground to improve safety and reduce overhead wiring.

Officials are also constructing entrance gates at key locations, including a dedicated gate for the Municipal Committee Hassanabdal. Road infrastructure is being upgraded with the installation of tuff tiles to improve movement for vehicles and pedestrians.

The project also includes improvement of building facades to create a more uniform urban appearance. Authorities are developing a parking facility near entry points to manage traffic during peak periods.

Work is under way to redesign the public square in front of Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib, where a food park is also being established. A food street is being developed at Lalarukh Park, while the park and its surrounding ponds and springs are being restored.
