Karachi Kings spinner Adam Zampa has revealed why he chose to play in the 2026 Pakistan Super League (PSL 11).
He stated that financial imbalance, rather than lack of interest, led to his decision to step away from the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In an interview with a local sports platform, the Australian leg-spinner spoke openly about the economics of the world’s richest T20 league. He explained that the pay offered did not match the time commitment required.
“To be brutally honest, for someone with my skill set, the money just isn’t there compared to what’s available for other skill sets,” Zampa said. “Considering the amount of time the IPL requires, it didn’t seem like a reasonable choice for me to keep playing.”
Zampa said he had initially planned to take a break from cricket; however, an unexpected opportunity came when he was picked to play in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.
The 34-year-old was recently drafted by Karachi Kings and has already made an impact in the tournament. He noted that the opportunity came quickly and that he is enjoying his experience in the league.
Speaking about his early experience in the PSL, Zampa highlighted the strong level of competition. He pointed to a closely contested match, where his team chased 129 and the opposition pushed the game down to the wire, as evidence of the quality of bowling and overall team strength.
He emphasized that several teams in the tournament have near international-level bowling attacks.
Zampa also praised Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi, highlighting his impact and presence on the field. He said he was particularly impressed by Afridi’s recent performance, where the left-arm fast bowler took four wickets and maintained strong rhythm throughout his spell.
He further noted that Afridi combines skill with natural wicket-taking ability and clearly understands his craft.
Reflecting on facing him as a batter, Zampa said, “He clearly knows what he’s doing and has a real knack for taking wickets. Would I like to bat against Shaheen? I have faced him before, and honestly, most of the time I’m just trying not to get hurt. But yes, he’s very good.”
Zampa also mentioned his friendship with Haris Rauf, using the comparison to further emphasize Afridi’s quality. Despite acknowledging the presence of many talented players, he stated that Afridi is the one he enjoys watching the most.
