The Government of Punjab has decided to suspend the procurement of new vehicles for field officers as part of its cost-cutting and energy-saving measures.
According to sources, the provincial government has put on hold a plan to purchase around 100 new vehicles for field staff across various departments. No purchase orders have been issued so far, and no payments have been made in this regard.
The decision also extends to the planned acquisition of two bulletproof vehicles, which has been paused as well. Despite the operational need for additional vehicles in several departments, authorities have opted to delay the procurement in line with the government’s austerity policy.
Under the new directive, government officers will continue using existing vehicles for the time being. Officials maintain that the move is aimed at reducing expenditures, conserving fuel, and ensuring more efficient use of available resources.
The provincial government has been implementing broader cost-control measures across sectors as it responds to the global energy crunch, signaling a shift towards more cautious financial management in the current economic climate.
