Islamabad Traffic Police Get New Fleet of Electric Vehicles

The federal government has added 15 electric vehicles to the fleet of the Islamabad Capital Territory Traffic Police as part of a plan aimed at improving traffic management and reducing fuel costs in the capital.

A ceremony was held in Islamabad for the induction of the environment-friendly vehicles, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif attending as the chief guest.

Officials said the initial batch of 15 eco-smart electric vehicles is being provided under the prime minister’s vision and the government’s energy-saving policy. According to the briefing, work on fuel economy and electric vehicle policy had already started before the recent Gulf crisis, and procurement of the vehicles had begun a few months ago.

The new vehicles will be deployed on major roads in Islamabad to support better traffic flow and quicker response.

Authorities said each vehicle will be staffed by a team including one captain, one male responder, one responder, and one driver, all of whom will be assigned special uniforms.

According to the briefing, each electric vehicle can travel 350 to 400 kilometers on a full charge. Fast charging will take 60 to 90 minutes, while normal charging will require 6 to 8 hours.

Officials also claimed that compared with petrol-powered vehicles, each electric vehicle could help save around Rs. 0.55 million per month. Based on current estimates, the vehicles are expected to recover their cost within 13 to 14 months.

The government also plans to add 15 more electric vehicles to the Islamabad Traffic Police fleet in the near future.

Officials said the induction of these vehicles is part of the federal government’s broader plan to introduce a more modern traffic management system in Islamabad.
