KP Brings Temporary Relief for Bike and Rickshaw Owners

In a move aimed at providing relief to citizens, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has waived motorcycle and rickshaw registration, transfer, number plate, and smart card fees for one month.

The decision was approved after the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly unanimously passed the Provincial Motor Vehicle Ordinance (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) Amendment Bill, 2026.

The private member’s bill was moved by treasury MPA Daud Shah during a session chaired by Mohammad Idrees Khan.

Under the amendment, transfer fees for motorcycles and rickshaws have been waived for one month. Previously, the fee was R. s500 for motorcycles and Rs. 800 for rickshaws.

Moreover, the Rs. 2,300 fee for private registration marks on motorbikes and Rs. 2,600 for rickshaws will also not be collected during this period.

The relief package extends beyond transfer fees, as the amendment also waives number plate and smart card charges for the same one-month period.

Law Minister Aftab Alam Afridi said the decision aims to provide relief to marginalized segments of society. He added that the waiver is temporary and will not be extended if the economic situation improves.

The measure is intended as a short-term subsidy to ease financial pressure on low-income vehicle owners. The assembly approved the bill unanimously, signaling broad political support for the initiative.

The waiver will remain in effect for one month only, after which the standard fees are expected to be reinstated unless further action is taken.
