The government has decided to regulate incoming international calls in an effort to improve revenue, strengthen security, and increase transparency, according to sources from the Ministry of IT.
Sources told ProPakistani that international calls are currently routed through Long Distance International (LDI) operators. The Ministry of IT has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to develop a policy for regulating these incoming calls.
Consultations are ongoing with relevant companies and institutions regarding the proposed regulation. According to Ministry sources, approval for the new framework will be granted once the consultation process is completed.
The regulation is intended to improve checks and balances within the call system, enhance the revenue model, and establish a more effective security framework. PTA is also preparing to actively monitor incoming international call traffic, with plans to tighten control over international telecom operations.
Under the new system, local telecom operators and LDI companies are expected to take on an expanded role once the regulations are implemented.
