Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday announced that diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran are far from over, even after US Vice President JD Vance announced the conclusion of negotiations without any agreement.
Dar said Islamabad would continue facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran following the departure of both delegations from the capital.
In an official statement delivered after the talks concluded, Dar thanked both countries for responding to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s call for an immediate ceasefire and for accepting Pakistan’s invitation to hold negotiations in Islamabad.
The US delegation was led by Vice President JD Vance, while Iran’s team was headed by Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Pakistani officials including Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir helped mediate multiple rounds of discussions that continued for nearly 24 hours before ending Sunday morning.
Despite Washington’s announcement that no agreement had been reached, Dar emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to keeping diplomatic channels open.
He expressed hope that both sides would maintain the ceasefire and continue negotiations in a constructive spirit aimed at achieving long-term regional stability and prosperity.
Dar said Pakistan would “continue to play its role” as a facilitator in future dialogue efforts.
