Punjab has reportedly approved a proposal to reduce traffic fines across multiple vehicle categories, according to a report by Dunya News. The move comes after the chief minister approved a summary sent by the DIG Traffic Punjab, while the proposal is set to be presented in the Punjab Assembly for formal approval.
Under the proposed changes, the fine for motorcycles has been reduced from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 1,000, while rickshaw fines have been cut from Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 1,000. However, serious violations will still carry a fine of Rs. 2,000.
Fines for cars and jeeps have reportedly been reduced from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 3,000. Authorities have retained fines for over-speeding across motorcycles, rickshaws and cars.
For vehicles with engine capacity above 2000cc and other luxury vehicles, fines have been reduced from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 10,000, with a minimum fine set at Rs. 2,000. Fines for Mazda, coaster and small passenger vans have been lowered from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 7,000.
Similarly, fines for trucks, buses and other heavy vehicles have reportedly been reduced from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 10,000. The proposal also includes reductions of up to Rs. 10,000 for various other violations involving light and heavy vehicles.
