Islamabad has auctioned six temporary cattle markets for sacrificial animals at a combined value of Rs. 349.5 million, marking a sharp increase in demand ahead of the upcoming Eid season.
The highest bid was recorded for the Sector I 12 market, which was awarded for Rs. 200.1 million. The Sangjani market followed at Rs. 62.5 million, while the site near Zia Mosque secured Rs. 50 million. The market at the Sultana Foundation location was auctioned for Rs. 25 million, with Japan Road and Bhara Kahu fetching Rs. 6.2 million and Rs. 6.1 million, respectively.
Authorities said the auction saw an increase of around 120 percent compared to last year, reflecting stronger participation and higher commercial interest. A total of 104 bidders took part in the process, which officials described as transparent and merit-based.
All markets will operate under a cashless system this year to streamline transactions and reduce risks associated with cash handling. The move is expected to improve efficiency and enhance security for both buyers and sellers.
To prevent unauthorized setups, teams from the District Municipal Authority have intensified monitoring across the city. Officials said strict enforcement measures are in place to ensure that only approved markets operate during the festival period.
The temporary facilities are aimed at managing crowds, maintaining hygiene standards, and ensuring an organized experience for citizens during the festival.
