Punjab to Build First ‘Film City’ in Lahore

Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the establishment of the “Punjab Film City” in Lahore, a major initiative aimed at revitalizing Pakistan’s film and media industry.

The project will be developed within the Nawaz Sharif IT City and is envisioned as the country’s first fully integrated, end-to-end media production hub.

The chief minister said the facility will bring together film, television, animation, and digital media production under one roof.

According to officials, the Film City will include state-of-the-art studios, sound stages, and advanced post-production labs.

The project aims to reduce reliance on foreign countries for visual effects (VFX) and post-production services by providing modern, local alternatives.

The master plan also features dedicated shooting locations, permanent sets, a central lake, and a convention hall designed for international events and award ceremonies.

In addition, a media trade hub and a specialised film and music school will be established to support talent development.

Maryam Nawaz said the initiative will generate thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities while boosting sectors such as animation, gaming, and digital media.

She described Film City as a milestone for the creative economy, bringing together talent, technology, and investment.

The project will be completed in phases as part of the government’s broader plan to modernise infrastructure and promote Pakistan’s entertainment industry.
