British-Pakistani Woman Elected as Councilor in UK

British-Pakistani politician and social activist Saadia Saadat has made history by becoming the first Muslim and Pakistani councillor elected from the Caversham Heights ward of Reading Borough Council, located on the outskirts of London.

Saadat, who contested the recent local elections in England on a Conservative Party ticket, also became the only Pakistani and Muslim candidate to win from the ward. Her victory is being seen as a major milestone for the British-Pakistani community.

She secured the seat despite strong campaigns and growing support for the Reform and Green parties. Through an extensive door-to-door campaign and active community engagement, Saadat managed to turn a previously Labour-held seat into a Conservative victory.

Saadat is widely respected among Pakistani and other communities in Reading for her long-standing social and political work. Over the years, she has launched several public welfare and community development initiatives in her constituency.

A graduate of Pakistan’s prestigious National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Saadat currently holds a senior position at a multinational company in the United Kingdom. She also serves in an important role with NUST UK.

Having lived in Britain for the past two decades, Saadat has received several awards and certificates of recognition from various social organizations. These include honors presented at the House of Lords for her political and community services.

She is also known for actively sharing her views on political and social issues through television appearances and articles published in international newspapers, where she highlights key community concerns and challenges.

Saadat dedicated her historic victory to her father, Zafar Saadat, saying his support and encouragement remained a major source of strength throughout her political journey.

“I am deeply grateful to the people of my constituency for placing their trust in me,” Saadat said after her victory. “I will continue serving the community with even greater dedication and commitment as their elected councillor.”
