Young batter Abdullah Fazal etched his name into Pakistan’s Test history on Tuesday by becoming only the sixth Pakistani to score a half-century in both innings of his debut match.
The landmark came during the first Test against Bangladesh at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, where Fazal followed up his first-innings 60 with another assured knock in the second innings as Pakistan chased a target of 268.
Pakistan Batters to Score 50+ in Both Innings on Test Debut
| Player | Scores | Opposition | Year | Venue |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Azhar Mahmood | 128* & 50* | South Africa | 1997 | Rawalpindi |
| Yasir Hameed | 170 & 105 | Bangladesh | 2003 | Karachi |
| Umar Akmal | 129 & 75 | New Zealand | 2009 | Dunedin |
| Fakhar Zaman | 94 & 66 | Australia | 2018 | Abu Dhabi |
| Abdullah Shafique | 52 & 73 | Bangladesh | 2021 | Chattogram |
| Abdullah Fazal | 60 & 66* | Bangladesh | 2026 | Mirpur |
His second fifty under pressure capped an impressive debut and placed him in a rare group of Pakistan batters who managed to cross the 50-run mark in both innings of their first Test.
The feat has previously been achieved by some of Pakistan’s most memorable red-ball names across different eras.
Azhar Mahmood was among the first to do it, scoring an unbeaten 128 and 50 against South Africa in Rawalpindi in 1997. Yasir Hameed later produced one of the most celebrated Pakistan debuts in Test history with scores of 170 and 105 against Bangladesh in Karachi in 2003.
Umar Akmal also made an immediate impact with 129 and 75 against New Zealand in Dunedin in 2009, while Fakhar Zaman carried his attacking style into the longest format by scoring 94 and 66 against Australia in Abu Dhabi in 2018.
Abdullah Shafique joined the list in 2021 after making 52 and 73 against Bangladesh in Chattogram, and Abdullah Fazal has now added his name to that company with a composed debut in Mirpur.
