Kashmir’s FBR Secretary Removed for Alleged Involvement in Illegal Cigarette Trade

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has removed the Secretary Inland Revenue from office as part of ongoing administrative changes linked to enforcement against alleged illegal cigarette manufacturing and tax evasion.

According to official and political sources, Choudhary Abdul Rehman has been replaced by Younis Mir, who has been appointed as the new Secretary Inland Revenue.

The development comes as the administration continues actions under its stated policy against tax evasion and unauthorized cigarette production.

Officials familiar with the matter say the leadership has raised concerns over enforcement performance and compliance within relevant revenue departments.

Earlier, the government also reversed a proposed posting for the Deputy Commissioner Inland Revenue, Mirpur Circle, in what was described in official circles as part of a broader review of appointments in sensitive enforcement roles.

Sources indicate that the Chief Minister’s Office has emphasized stricter implementation of revenue laws and tighter oversight of departments linked to tax collection and regulatory enforcement.

Administrative observers say the recent changes signal increased scrutiny of officials working in revenue enforcement, particularly in areas connected to tobacco taxation and compliance operations.
