A Bykea rider was critically injured after Dolphin Police allegedly opened fire on him on Farooq-e-Azam Road in Rawalpindi.
According to the injured rider’s statement, he was riding a motorcycle with one passenger when Dolphin Police attempted to stop them. He said police opened fire before the bike could fully come to a halt.
The rider said the passenger then fired aerial shots, but those bullets did not injure anyone at the scene. He claimed police wrongly assumed he was linked to the armed passenger and, as a result, opened direct fire on him.
He sustained nine bullet injuries in the incident and was immediately shifted to hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
The case has drawn widespread public attention and sparked renewed debate over police transparency and the use of force, especially in the wake of recent announcements about body cameras for police personnel.

Following social media backlash and public concern, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice of the incident. An official inquiry has since been launched, while four Dolphin Police constables have been suspended on grounds of negligence.
Even so, the case continues to raise difficult questions about whether disciplinary action alone is enough in an incident involving life-threatening injuries to a working-class rider.
It has also intensified debate over proportional use of force, accountability in police operations, and whether clearer safeguards are needed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
