The Lahore Traffic Police has imposed a ban on the entry of loader rickshaws and Qingqi rickshaws on major roads, particularly Canal Road, to improve traffic flow and enhance public safety.
According to Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore, loader rickshaws had been temporarily allowed on roads during Eid ul Azha to facilitate the transportation of sacrificial animals. However, that relaxation has now been withdrawn.
Under the new directive, all types of loader and Qingqi rickshaws will be prohibited from entering Canal Road and other designated model roads from today. Additional traffic personnel have been deployed to ensure strict enforcement of the restrictions.
The CTO also directed authorities to register criminal cases, in addition to issuing challans, against individuals transporting steel bars, T-irons and other iron rods on Canal Road, citing serious risks to public safety.
Meanwhile, traffic police have been ordered to launch a special crackdown against auto-rickshaw drivers carrying extra passengers alongside the driver.
Special enforcement teams have been stationed at key locations, including Dharampura, Mughalpura and Thokar Niaz Baig, to monitor compliance and manage traffic. Traffic authorities said the measures aim to prevent accidents, protect commuters and maintain smooth traffic flow across the city.
