Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has publicly raised concerns about corruption within the power distribution system after employees of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) allegedly collected Rs. 80,000 from villagers for a transformer repair without issuing a receipt.
In a post on X, Asif said a transformer in the village of his domestic worker had burned out. He contacted a former LESCO chief executive and requested assistance.
LESCO staff repaired the transformer and collected Rs. 80,000 from local residents, who pooled funds to pay for the work.
Asif alleged that no receipt was provided for the payment and that LESCO officials later refused to issue one despite the amount having been paid in full.
The defense minister remarked that if employees were unwilling to avoid such practices even after a recommendation from a former power minister and a sitting cabinet member, ordinary consumers could still face greater difficulties.
LESCO has not yet issued a public response regarding the allegations.
