AMD Launches Cheaper 8 Core 3D V Cache CPU for AM5 Gamers

AMD (AMD) is expanding its Ryzen 7000 desktop processor lineup with the new Ryzen 7 7700X3D, an 8-core gaming CPU with 3D V Cache for the AM5 platform.

The processor will be available on July 16 with a suggested launch price of $329.

Specifications

The Ryzen 7 7700X3D uses AMD’s Zen 4 architecture and comes with 8 cores and 16 threads.

It has a 4.0GHz base clock and a boost speed of up to 4.5GHz. The chip also includes 104MB of total cache, made up of 96MB of L3 cache and 8MB of L2 cache.

AMD lists the processor with a 120W TDP and support for DDR5 memory on AM5 motherboards.

7800X3D vs 7700X3D

The Ryzen 7 7700X3D keeps the same 8-core and 16-thread layout as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, along with the same 96MB L3 cache configuration.

However, AMD has lowered the clock speeds. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D has a 4.0GHz base clock and 4.5GHz boost clock, compared with 4.2 GHz and 5.0 GHz on the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

That means the new chip sits below the 7800X3D in AMD’s gaming CPU lineup, but it also launches at a much lower price. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D originally launched at $449, while the Ryzen 7 7700X3D starts at $329.

A Cheaper 8 Core 3D V Cache Option

AMD already offers a lower-priced 3D V-Cache option through the Ryzen 5 7600X3D, but that model has 6 cores.

The Ryzen 7 7700X3D gives AM5 users an 8-core 3D V-Cache chip at a lower price, making it a more direct option for gamers who want stronger gaming performance without moving to AMD’s newer and more expensive Zen 5 X3D processors.

AMD also said it is extending AM5 support through 2029, giving users more room to upgrade their systems without replacing the platform.

Ryzen 7 5800X3D Also Returns

Alongside the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, AMD is bringing back the Ryzen 7 5800X3D as a 10th Anniversary Edition for the AM4 platform.

That chip will be available from June 25 with a suggested launch price of $349. It gives older AM4 users another upgrade option without moving to a new motherboard and DDR5 memory.

The Ryzen 7 7700X3D is expected to attract AM5 users who want AMD’s 3D V-Cache gaming performance at a lower entry price.
