Pakistan has accelerated efforts to restore inactive airports across the country as authorities move to strengthen regional air connectivity and improve access to underserved areas.
A high-level meeting held at the headquarters of the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) in Karachi reviewed plans for the revival of several dormant airports.
According to sources, officials were directed to expedite work on restoring operations at airports in Dera Ismail Khan, Turbat, Dalbandin, and Saidu Sharif. The meeting also reviewed the reopening of facilities at Sukkur, New Gwadar, and other airports as part of a broader aviation infrastructure rehabilitation program.
The initiative follows recent efforts by the Ministry of Defence and the PAA to bring non-operational airports back into service and expand regional air links. Earlier this month, Dera Ismail Khan Airport resumed operations after remaining inactive for several years.
Sources said the Ministry of Defence has instructed the PAA to fast-track the restoration of inactive airports nationwide to improve connectivity, support economic activity, and enhance access to remote regions.
The meeting also discussed matters related to a new private airline, although officials did not disclose further details. The development comes as Pakistan seeks to strengthen its aviation sector through improved infrastructure and expanded air transport services.
The meeting was chaired by PAA Director General Air Vice Marshal Zeeshan Saeed and attended by senior officials from airport services, engineering, and commercial departments.
