The federal government has set a target of creating 2 million new jobs during FY2026-27 as part of its broader strategy to support economic growth and expand employment opportunities across key sectors of the economy.
According to official planning documents, the services sector is expected to account for the largest share of new employment, generating around 1.1 million jobs during the next fiscal year. The industrial sector is projected to create 500,000 jobs, while agriculture is expected to add another 400,000 employment opportunities.
The government’s latest target comes after claiming that approximately 1.8 million jobs were created during the current fiscal year ending June 30, 2026.
Official documents state that rising employment opportunities are expected to support broad-based and inclusive economic growth while strengthening household incomes and overall economic activity.
The government believes ongoing federal and provincial employment generation programs will continue to improve labor market participation, entrepreneurship, technical skills development, and job matching mechanisms designed to connect workers with suitable employment opportunities.
The services sector remains Pakistan’s largest employer and economic contributor, making it a key driver of future job creation. Meanwhile, industrial expansion and agricultural activity are also expected to play an important role in supporting employment growth over the coming year.
