Punjab University (PU) has become the first public-sector university to launch an AI chatbot for the public to help students with admissions and other university-related information.
The PU Admission Assistant Chatbot was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. M. Ali during a ceremony attended by Chairman Admission Committee Prof. Dr. Mahmood Saleem, Dean Faculty of Computing and Information Technology Prof. Dr. Shahzad Sarwar, deans of various faculties, and administrative officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. M. Ali appreciated the team for developing the chatbot in a short period and described it as a commendable achievement.
He further added that the university gives top priority to facilitating students and admission seekers, and directed that the chatbot facility should be extended to other departments as well.
Briefing the participants, Prof. Dr. Shahzad Sarwar said the chatbot was developed by Punjab University using its own resources within a short timeframe. He added that the chatbot will provide guidance in English, Urdu, and Roman Urdu.
