The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has updated the Import General Manifest (IGM) format by making mandatory the mentioning of the importer’s NTN (National Tax Number) or FTN (Foreign Tax Number) at the time of cargo declaration.
The move is aimed at improving trade data accuracy, strengthening traceability, Pakistan Customs shared in a tweet on X a short while ago.
According to the revised rules, importers must now provide their NTN or FTN number when filing import declarations. However, for small parcels or one-time importers who do not possess an NTN or FTN, a CNIC or passport number will be accepted as an alternative identifier.
The change is designed to simplify the import process while ensuring better monitoring of trade flows and reducing documentation gaps in the system.
The new provisions will come into effect from 15 August 2026, as outlined under SRO 918(I)/2026. Further details are available on the official FBR website.
