The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has announced plans to develop a Mangrove and Biodiversity Park and Learning Centre at China Creek as part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability and eco-tourism in the city.
The project follows Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab’s earlier announcement during the inauguration of a mangrove park at Ibrahim Hyderi.
During a visit to the proposed site, Wahab said the initiative represents a long-term investment in Karachi’s future, highlighting the role of mangroves in protecting coastlines from erosion, rising sea levels and climate-related disasters. He added that mangroves also support marine ecosystems and help absorb carbon emissions.
According to the mayor, the project will feature mangrove conservation areas, biodiversity trails, educational facilities, awareness programs and eco-tourism attractions for residents, students, researchers, environmentalists and tourists.
Wahab said the project has entered the execution phase and is expected to be completed in November. He added that the facility is expected to attract millions of visitors annually and emerge as a major environmental and educational landmark in Karachi.
