Karachi’s Feels-Like Temperature Soars to 48°C

Karachi remained in the grip of hot and humid weather on Tuesday, with the maximum temperature reaching 36.5°C, while high humidity levels pushed the “feels-like” temperature to around 48°C.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), relative humidity remained at 62 percent, significantly increasing discomfort despite the actual temperature remaining below 37°C.

A Met Office official said that at around 2pm, the temperature was recorded at 36°C with 60 percent humidity, while southwest winds were blowing at 21 kilometres per hour. At that time, the feels-like temperature reached nearly 48°C.

Meanwhile, severe heatwave conditions persisted across upper and central Sindh. Dadu recorded the highest temperature at 48°C, while Sukkur, Rohri and Khairpur registered around 46.5°C.

The PMD had warned last week that heatwave conditions would continue across Sindh, with temperatures expected to remain 4°C to 6°C above normal in many areas.

For Wednesday, the Met Office has forecast a maximum temperature of around 36°C in Karachi, while humidity levels may exceed 70 percent.
