Fares Revealed for Lahore’s E-Bike Sharing Service

The Punjab government has formally launched its electric bike-sharing project under the Green Mobility Initiative, aimed at improving urban transportation and reducing air pollution in Lahore.

The project will be financed entirely through private investment, with an initial investment of Rs. 8.1 billion and no financial burden on the provincial government.

Under the plan, 50,000 electric bikes will be deployed across Lahore in phases over the next 18 months. The first phase will see the rollout of 10,000 e-bikes, supported by 1,500 smart docking stations to be installed at key locations across the city.

A signing ceremony for the project was held at the Civil Secretariat on Thursday in the presence of senior government officials. Authorities said the system will operate through a dedicated mobile application featuring GPS-based tracking and a battery-swapping mechanism to ensure uninterrupted service.

Users will be required to verify their identity through their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) before accessing the service.

The government said the initiative is expected to help reduce carbon emissions, ease traffic congestion and provide affordable transportation options for commuters. According to the announced fare structure, users will pay Rs. 25 for the first kilometer and Rs. 15 for each additional kilometer.
