Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to introduce additional facilities for citizens under the Apna Ghar Scheme and accelerate the approval process for eligible housing loan applications, signaling the government’s intention to expand access to home financing.
The directives were issued during a review meeting on the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Scheme, where officials briefed the premier on the program’s progress. Shehbaz said the strong public response to the initiative was encouraging and noted that continued momentum would help more families achieve the dream of owning a home.
According to officials, the prime minister instructed relevant institutions and participating banks to simplify procedures and expedite approvals for valid applications. The government believes faster processing can improve access to affordable housing finance, particularly for middle and lower income households.
The scheme has already disbursed more than Rs. 5 billion in loans to over 1,800 beneficiaries, according to previously released official figures. The initiative is designed to support home construction and ownership through subsidized financing and easier access to credit.
Housing remains one of Pakistan’s largest social and economic challenges, with the country facing a significant housing shortage and relatively low mortgage penetration compared to regional markets and affordable housing finance is a key tool for expanding homeownership while also stimulating construction activity and related industries.
