CCD Punjab Accepts Mistake in Killing of 10-Year-Old Pakistani-Australian Girl

Punjab’s Crime Control Department (CCD) has admitted that one of its officers made a fatal mistake during a robbery response in Lahore that led to the death of 10-year-old Pakistani-Australian girl Hania.

In its official statement, CCD said the incident took place late on June 10 when its personnel responded to an armed robbery involving a family car. The department said the robbers had stopped the vehicle and were holding the family at gunpoint when officers arrived.

According to CCD, the suspects opened fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire. During the chaos, the officer involved wrongly believed the robbers were trying to escape in the family’s vehicle and opened fire on the car.

That firing killed Hania and injured her father and brother.

CCD said the officer’s conduct was a grave violation of its standard operating procedures and the legal principles governing the use of force. The department said the official was suspended the same day, taken into custody, later arrested, and produced before a court, which sent him to judicial custody.

The image of the family’s car shows extensive bullet damage, with the rear windscreen, trunk and body of the vehicle riddled with bullet holes. The additional details provided about the case allege the officer sprayed the vehicle with around 60 rounds while other personnel did not intervene.

An FIR was registered on the complaint of Hania’s father, while forensic evidence, including the officer’s weapon and spent cartridges, has been secured.

CCD said it remains in daily contact with the bereaved family and is providing updates on the investigation as the case moves forward.
