Govt School Teachers More Qualified Than Private School Teachers: Survey

A nationwide analysis by Gallup Pakistan has found that government school teachers hold higher academic and professional qualifications than teachers working in private schools across the country.

The analysis, based on teacher-level data from the ASER Pakistan 2025 report, showed that 52.4 percent of government school teachers possess a master’s degree or higher qualification, compared to 39.1 percent of teachers in private schools.

The data also showed that private schools employ a larger share of teachers with intermediate and bachelor’s level qualifications. Teachers holding intermediate certificates account for 18.9 percent of the private sector workforce, compared to 9.6 percent in government schools.

Similarly, bachelor’s degree holders make up 30.6 percent of teachers in private schools and 27.7 percent in government institutions. In terms of professional teaching credentials, 41.3 percent of government school teachers hold a Bachelor of Education degree, compared to 33.4 percent in private schools.

Likewise, 23.4 percent of public sector teachers possess a Master of Education degree, while the figure stands at 15.3 percent in the private sector. The report attributed the differences to the recruitment structures of the two sectors.

According to the analysis, government schools operate under formal recruitment systems that require specific academic and professional qualifications, while private schools have more flexible hiring practices.

Gallup Pakistan said the findings highlight disparities in teacher qualifications between the public and private education sectors and underscore the importance of professional training and qualification standards in the country’s education system.
