The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) has launched a mobile service for the issuance of learner driving licences, allowing citizens to complete the process at designated locations through mobile facilitation vans.
According to the NHMP, the initiative is aimed at making learner licence services more accessible and convenient for the public. The mobile vans will visit various areas and provide on-the-spot facilities for obtaining learner driving licences.
The motorway police said the service is expected to reduce the need for citizens to visit licensing centres and will help streamline the learner licence issuance process.
Separately, the NHMP has announced stricter fire safety regulations for vehicles travelling on motorways and national highways.
In a statement, the motorway police made it mandatory for all vehicles, particularly passenger and cargo vehicles, to carry a functional fire extinguisher. Officials said the requirement is being introduced to reduce fire-related risks during accidents and emergencies.
The NHMP warned that strict legal action will be taken after June 24 against vehicles found without a working fire extinguisher. Cargo and public service vehicles lacking the required equipment will not be allowed to enter motorways and national highways.
To promote compliance with the new rules, the motorway police is conducting a nationwide fire safety awareness campaign, which will continue until June 24.
