CDA Ends Nearly 3,000 Vacant Cleaner, Gardener, Guard And Driver Jobs

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has abolished more than 2,900 vacant and redundant positions as part of the federal government’s rightsizing initiative aimed at reducing costs and improving efficiency in public sector organizations.

The decision was approved during the seventh CDA Board meeting held on June 8 and formally notified by the Human Resource Development Directorate on June 11.

According to the notification, the eliminated posts span multiple grades and include both technical and administrative positions that had remained vacant for extended periods.

Among the largest cuts were 641 positions of cleaners and sweepers, 400 gardener posts, 316 helper positions, 172 security guard slots and 161 driver positions.

The authority also abolished 90 junior assistant posts, 40 assistant director (civil) positions and several other jobs including junior technicians, stenographers, building inspectors and research assistants.

CDA officials said the move is intended to rationalize the authority’s workforce in line with the federal government’s austerity and rightsizing agenda. The abolished positions have been removed from the direct recruitment quota, while promotion quota positions have been frozen to maintain continuity in the promotion structure.

The government has launched a broader rightsizing exercise across federal entities to streamline operations, reduce recurring expenditures and eliminate long vacant posts that are no longer considered necessary.
