PM Shehbaz Extends Austerity Drive, Spending Restrictions on Govt Staff Continue

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday approved an extension of the federal government’s austerity measures until June 30.

According to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the existing cost-cutting policies will continue for the extended period as part of ongoing fiscal discipline efforts.

Under the measures, the 50 percent reduction in fuel consumption for official government vehicles has been extended until June 30.

The directive to keep 60 percent of government vehicles grounded will also remain in effect until the same date.

In addition, the ban on foreign visits by government officers and officials has been extended until June 30 as well.

The extension was approved by the Prime Minister following recommendations from a special committee overseeing austerity measures.
