Govt Officially Confirms Installment Plans for PTA Tax

The National Assembly in the Finance Bill 2026-27 has allowed individuals to pay Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) taxes on imported mobile phones in installments.

The measure is aimed at easing the upfront financial burden on consumers registering imported smartphones through the PTA’s Device Identification, Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS).

Under the approved law, individuals liable to pay PTA taxes on imported mobile devices will be allowed to clear the amount in installments under a procedure to be prescribed by the government.

However, the Finance Bill requires that all installments be paid before the close of the financial year in which the mobile phone is imported.

The facility will apply to both new and used imported mobile phones and will come into effect from **July 1, 2026**, following the implementation of the Finance Act 2026-27.

The detailed payment mechanism and eligibility criteria are expected to be notified separately by the relevant authorities.
