IHC Seeks Reply Over Umrah Pilgrims’ Offloading at Islamabad Airport

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued a notice to the director general immigration over the offloading of three passengers, including a couple, who were set to travel for Umrah.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard the petition filed by Asad Aslam, Imran and Ishrat Imran, who challenged the decision to stop them from boarding their flight on June 18.

During the hearing, counsel for the petitioners told the court that his clients were offloaded at the airport on the pretext that they did not have a hotel booking.

He argued that the claim was baseless, saying the passengers had both a return ticket of a private airline and a hotel booking QR code at the time.

The lawyer further alleged that airport staff misbehaved with the passengers and offloaded them without properly verifying their travel documents. He also claimed that staff members demanded a bribe to clear them for travel.

The petition asked the court to allow the three individuals to proceed with their Umrah journey. It also sought reimbursement of around Rs. 1.4 million spent on the trip and called for a departmental inquiry against the officials involved.

After taking up the matter, the court issued notice to the director general immigration and sought a response.
