The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Wednesday approved a total package of Rs. 194 billion for power distribution companies (DISCOs).
This package comprises a Rs. 52 billion equity injection, Rs. 97.65 billion subsidy reallocation, and Rs. 44.2 billion arrears adjustment.
The committee approved the re-appropriation of Rs. 97.649 billion from K-Electric’s tariff differential subsidy allocation to the Inter-DISCO Tariff Differential Subsidy.
Additionally, the ECC approved the adjustment of TESCO’s Tariff Differential Subsidy (TDS) arrears claims amounting to Rs. 44.198 billion, addressing outstanding subsidy obligations linked to the utility.
These measures are intended to strengthen financial support for the power sector, facilitate subsidy management, and improve the financial position of electricity distribution companies that have been constantly operating at a loss due to poor recoveries, theft, and expensive power generation.
