Iran has reportedly introduced a free 10-day visa for Pakistani nationals planning to attend the funeral and farewell ceremonies of late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The facility does not provide visa-free entry. Pakistani travellers must still submit an application and receive an approved Iranian visa before departure. However, Iran will reportedly waive the normal visa fee for eligible applicants.
Applicants can submit their requests through Iran’s official electronic visa portal. They have been advised to select the “Entry Visa” category and clearly state that they intend to attend the funeral or related mourning ceremonies.
Applicants have been advised to upload a copy of their CNIC and proof of their professional or educational status.
This may include an employment card, business card or student identification document. They must also upload a recent passport-sized photograph against a white background.
Applicants can take the photograph using a mobile phone, provided it is clear and meets the required format.
A digital copy of the passport’s information page will also be required. The passport should remain valid for at least six months.
Travellers must explain the purpose of their visit within the online application form. They should provide accurate and complete information to avoid delays or rejection.
The new arrangement covers the visa fee only. It does not allow Pakistani nationals to travel to Iran without prior permission.
Therefore, applicants should wait for their visa approval before purchasing confirmed airline tickets or beginning their journey.
Available reports indicate that the facility is currently intended mainly for people travelling by air. Arrangements for travellers planning to enter Iran through the Taftan land border remain less clear.
Some reports also suggest that applicants may need to purchase medical or travel insurance separately. This means travellers may still face other charges even though Iran has waived the visa fee.
The Iranian government has not publicly listed all special requirements for Pakistani applicants on the general guidance pages of its eVisa portal.
In particular, applicants should verify whether a CNIC, visiting card or student card is mandatory in their individual case.
They should also confirm the correct visa category with the Iranian Embassy or a consulate before submitting the application.
Pakistanis should use only the official Iranian eVisa portal and avoid agents offering guaranteed or instant approvals.
