Microsoft has extended its Windows 10 Extended Security Updates programme for consumers by another year.
Eligible Windows 10 computers enrolled in the programme will now continue receiving security updates until October 12, 2027. The previous deadline was October 13, 2026.
Users who have already enrolled do not need to take any action, as their coverage will continue automatically through the new deadline.
Microsoft ended regular support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, as it continued encouraging users to move to Windows 11.
The company later introduced its consumer Extended Security Updates programme for people who needed more time before upgrading their operating system or replacing their computer.
The programme was originally scheduled to provide updates for one year after regular support ended. Microsoft has now added a second year without making a major public announcement.
The programme provides critical security updates for eligible computers running Windows 10 version 22H2.
It does not include new features, design changes, general technical support, or other non-security updates.
Windows 10 computers will continue working without ESU, but they will not receive Microsoft’s latest operating-system security fixes.
Eligible users can enrol through the Windows Update section in Settings. A Microsoft account is required during enrolment, and the account must have administrator access on the computer.
Depending on the user’s region, enrolment options can include syncing PC settings at no additional cost, redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points, or making a one-time payment of $30.
One ESU licence can cover up to 10 eligible Windows 10 devices. Microsoft has not said whether it will extend the consumer programme for a third year after October 2027.
