DRAP Achieves Major Global Milestone

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has secured membership in the International Pharmaceutical Regulators Program (IPRP), marking a major milestone in the country’s efforts to align its pharmaceutical regulatory system with global standards.

The announcement was made during the 70th IPRP Management Committee meeting held in Brazil. With the new membership, DRAP will actively participate in international regulatory working groups and contribute to the development of global pharmaceutical standards.

Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal welcomed the achievement, calling it a significant step toward strengthening Pakistan’s pharmaceutical sector.

He said the membership will increase public confidence by ensuring that medicines available through local pharmacies are safe, effective, and meet international quality standards.

DRAP Chief Executive Officer Obaidullah described the membership as international recognition of the authority’s regulatory progress.

He added that stronger alignment with global standards will improve access to high-quality generic medicines, providing Pakistanis with affordable alternatives to expensive branded drugs.

Officials believe the development will enhance Pakistan’s pharmaceutical regulatory framework, improve medicine quality, and strengthen the country’s position in the global healthcare sector.
