Pakistan to Give Chip Design Training to Engineers

The federal government has launched a Rs4.5 billion program to develop expertise in semiconductor technology and chip design, aiming to strengthen Pakistan’s technology sector and create new employment opportunities for young engineers.

Speaking at an event in Islamabad, Federal IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the initiative will provide specialized training to approximately 7,200 engineers. Around 300 students have already begun training at universities participating in the program.

The initiative focuses on equipping participants with advanced technical skills in semiconductor engineering and chip design, two fields that are experiencing strong global demand.

The government hopes the program will improve the employability of Pakistani graduates and prepare them for careers in the international technology industry.

The minister said each training program will undergo independent third-party evaluation to measure its quality and assess employment outcomes for participants.

The semiconductor training initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to promote high-tech industries, enhance digital skills and position Pakistan as a competitive player in the global technology market.
