Customs Seize Marijuana Worth Rs. 36 Crore Hidden in Toy Parcels

Pakistan Customs has foiled an attempt to smuggle 12 kilograms of marijuana worth approximately Rs. 362 million through the International Mail Office at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.

According to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), customs officials intercepted two suspicious parcels that arrived from Thailand and were declared as containing toys.

During screening, officials discovered 12 kilograms of marijuana concealed inside boxes of plastic toys, Lego sets, model kits, toy cars, cut paper, and wooden blocks in an apparent attempt to evade customs inspections.

Customs officials seized the narcotics and registered a case under the relevant laws. Authorities have launched an investigation to identify those involved and dismantle the smuggling network behind the shipment.

The FBR said the rapid growth of international e-commerce has increased cross border shipments, creating new opportunities for criminal networks to misuse international mail services for drug trafficking.
