Bill Approved to Issue Blue Passports to Children of MNAs

The Senate Standing Committee on Interior has unanimously approved the Members of Parliament Salaries and Allowances (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which includes a proposal to issue blue passports to the dependent children of lawmakers.

The meeting, chaired by Senator Faisal Saleem Rehman, reviewed the amendment bill, which was presented by Senator Abdul Qadir.

Speaking during the meeting, Abdul Qadir argued that the move would not create any significant burden, saying that dependent children of senators and members of parliament under the age of 28 should be eligible for blue passports. He urged lawmakers to amend the existing law to accommodate the proposal.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry suggested referring the bill to the federal cabinet before moving forward. However, Senator Abdul Qadir maintained that cabinet approval was not required for the legislation.

Following the discussion, the committee unanimously approved the amendment bill.

During the meeting, Talal Chaudhry cautioned that policies related to blue and diplomatic passports could have implications for Pakistan’s passport ranking and should be considered carefully as the legislative process moves forward.

The bill will now proceed to the next stage of the parliamentary process before it can become law.
