The Punjab government has made the Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGET) a mandatory requirement for admission to Level-III postgraduate medical residency programs starting with the January 2027 induction.
According to an official notification issued by the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department, the decision has been taken on the recommendations of the Post Graduate Admission Committee during its meeting held on July 8, 2026.
Under the new policy, all candidates seeking admission to MS, MD, MDS, and FCPS residency training programs in Punjab will be required to qualify for the entrance test before they can be considered for induction.
The notification states that the University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore will conduct the Post Graduate Entrance Test.
It also specifies that candidates must secure a minimum qualifying percentile of 75 to pass the examination.
The department clarified that eligibility and merit for Level-III residency admissions will continue to be determined according to the criteria notified by the department.
Meanwhile, the test schedule, application procedure, syllabus, examination pattern, and other operational details will be announced separately by the University of Health Sciences.
The notification was issued on July 9, 2026, and will come into effect for all postgraduate medical residency admissions beginning with the January 2027 induction cycle.
