Several areas of Karachi have been facing severe water shortages for the past five months due to a dispute between the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP).
The issue centers on a damaged 33-inch water pipeline near Nipa Chowrangi, beneath the flyover. The pipeline was damaged during K-IV augmentation works.
Temporary repairs were carried out after the damage occurred. However, officials said that around 200 feet of the pipeline had been extensively damaged and now required complete replacement.
Despite the seriousness of the situation, replacement work has remained stalled.
KWSC and KWSSIP have not accepted responsibility for replacing the damaged section, leaving the issue unresolved, and several parts of the city are struggling with continued water shortages
