Pakistan will begin issuing e-passports to its nationals living in the UAE from July 20, 2026, according to a public notice shared by the Consulate General of Pakistan in Dubai.
From that date, all passport applications submitted at the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai will be processed only under the e-passport category.
The new passports will comply with standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The embassy clarified that existing machine-readable passports will remain valid until their expiry. Pakistanis whose passports still have more than six months of validity have been advised to wait and apply for renewal once the remaining validity falls below six months.
Overseas Pakistanis can also continue using the online passport application service offered by the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP).
The embassy has also announced the fee structure for five-year and 10-year e-passports.
A five-year, 36-page e-passport will cost Dhs 145 under normal processing and Dhs 235 under urgent processing. The fee for a 72-page passport has been set at Dhs 260 for normal service and Dhs 425 for urgent service.
For a 10-year validity, a 36-page e-passport will cost Dhs 215 under normal processing and Dhs 355 under urgent processing. A 72-page passport will cost Dhs 390 under the normal category and Dhs 635 under the urgent category.
Separate and higher charges will apply for the replacement of lost passports, including first- and second-loss cases.
The embassy has advised members of the Pakistani community to visit the DGIP website and follow its official channels for further updates.
