Punjab Launches Health Connect Program

The Punjab government has launched the Punjab Health Connect Program, a new initiative aimed at improving the quality of healthcare services across the province by bringing international medical expertise directly into public hospitals.

Under the program, leading overseas Pakistani and foreign specialist doctors and surgeons will visit government hospitals across Punjab and provide free medical treatment to patients.

The initiative has been launched on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to strengthen the public healthcare system through international medical collaboration.

The program is designed to serve a dual purpose. While patients in government hospitals will gain access to specialized medical services that are often unavailable at the district and tehsil levels, the visiting doctors and surgeons will also train local healthcare professionals in advanced medical techniques and modern clinical practices.

This knowledge transfer is expected to contribute significantly to capacity building within the provincial health sector.

Addressing the Specialist Shortage

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said providing healthcare facilities of international standards in Punjab’s public hospitals was a commitment of her government. She said the provincial healthcare system was being transformed in accordance with global standards.

She further said the Punjab Health Connect Program would help address the shortage of specialist doctors in government hospitals by bringing international medical expertise and experience to the province.

The shortage of specialist doctors in public sector hospitals has long been a challenge for the provincial health system, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas.

Many patients are forced to travel to major cities or turn to expensive private facilities for specialized care. Officials hope the new program will ease this burden by making expert consultations and advanced procedures available closer to home.

The government has not yet released a detailed schedule of visiting specialists or the specific hospitals that will host them. However, officials said the program will be rolled out in phases, with priority given to medical disciplines where the shortage of specialists is most acute.
