Pakistan Customs Seized Rs. 7.7 Billion Worth of Fake Goods in FY26

Pakistan Customs stepped up its crackdown on counterfeit and pirated goods during fiscal year 2025-26, registering a sharp increase in intellectual property enforcement cases and seizing fake products worth an estimated Rs. 7.7 billion.

According to the Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement (IPRE), Customs registered 201 intellectual property rights forfeiture and seizure cases during the fiscal year, compared with 162 cases in FY2024-25, reflecting a 24 percent increase in enforcement actions.

The seized goods included counterfeit luxury products, textiles, automobile parts, cosmetics, footwear, consumer durables, and other trademark infringing items. Customs said the operations were aimed at protecting consumers, supporting legitimate businesses, and preventing the illegal trade of counterfeit products through stronger border enforcement.

Alongside enforcement activities, the Directorate General IPRE organized 30 awareness sessions, workshops, and seminars across Pakistan to promote greater understanding of intellectual property rights and border enforcement. The events brought together Customs officials, chambers of commerce, importers, exporters, traders, customs clearing agents, rights holders, and other stakeholders.

Director General of Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Abdul Qadir Memon said Pakistan Customs will continue strengthening its enforcement capabilities through capacity building, modern risk management practices, technological innovation, and closer cooperation with national and international partners.

He said the department remains committed to preventing the import, export, and transit of counterfeit and pirated goods while protecting consumers, encouraging fair competition, and facilitating legitimate trade in line with national laws and international best practices.
