Pakistan’s E-Office Helps Save Rs. 300 Million, Cuts 80% Govt Processing Time

The National Information Technology Board (NITB) has reported significant progress in the implementation of its E-Office application, with the digital platform now being used by 42 federal government organizations.

The official documents state that the shift to digital operations has saved up to Rs. 300 million in stationery costs. Government departments are also achieving up to an 80 percent reduction in processing time.

The E-Office system replaces traditional paper-based file processing with a digital workspace designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and service delivery across government departments.

According to official documents, 6,760 government employees are actively using the platform. The system currently hosts 67,998 electronic files and 407,097 digital documents.

The application allows authorized officials to instantly locate, update, and share files. This eliminates delays caused by the physical movement of files while reducing the risk of theft, loss, or misplacement of important government records.

The documents further note that data can now be accessed with a single click, helping speed up decision-making and allowing departments to focus on strategic priorities instead of manual administrative work.

To protect government data and ensure business continuity, the E-Office platform is backed by a Disaster Recovery Capacity capable of handling up to 500 million data points. The system is designed to provide secure storage and recovery of digital records, strengthening government operations against data loss and other disruptions.

The E-Office system was developed by the National Information Technology Board (NITB) under the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication as a flagship e-governance initiative to modernize public sector administration.

The platform has been rolled out in phases since its development following the establishment of NITB in 2014. A major milestone was achieved in 2022 when implementation across all federal ministries and divisions was completed.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda to modernize governance through paperless and technology-driven public administration.
