The US military has moved one step closer to merging its top-secret and high-end military technology and supply chains with Israel, international media reported today.
The provision could reduce US independence in defense production and decision-making and to that effect, give Israel more control, Republican candidate Thomas Massie posted on X shortly after US House of Representatives narrowly passed a $1.15 trillion defense package to support Israeli military, armaments, and supply chains.
The legislation was approved in a 216-212 vote and now heads to the Senate.
Massie said such closer defense integration with Israel would undermine US control over its own military and industrial base.
The bill also authorizes funding for the Pentagon, military modernization, weapons procurement, and a pay raise for US service members. Among its provisions is Section 219, which expands cooperation with Israel on defense technology, industrial production, research, development, testing, and supply chains.
President Donald Trump is trying to strengthen the long-standing strategic alliance with Israel and make military supply chains more accessible to the occupying state.
Massie voted against the bill which Congress ended up passing anyway. He argued that Section 219 effectively “merges our military technology and supply chains with Israel’s”.
He expressed hope that the Senate rejects the bill. His remarks mirror neutral opinions that closer defense integration with Israel would weaken US control over its own military and industrial base.
