US President Donald Trump on Wednesday warned Iran that the United States would strike its infrastructure if Tehran targets commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said that “any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz,” using missiles, rockets, drones, or any other weapon, the United States would respond by bombing and destroying “one bridge or power plant,” including facilities located near the Iranian capital, Tehran.
The warning comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran continue to rise following renewed military exchanges and repeated threats to international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil transit routes.
Roughly one-fifth of global oil consumption passes through the narrow waterway, making any disruption a major concern for energy markets and global trade.
