Pakistan Tells IMF Revenue Targets Are on Track, Eyes Return to Global Capital Markets

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb held a series of meetings with senior International Monetary Fund (IMF) officials in Washington, D.C., to review Pakistan’s economic performance and the progress of reforms under the country’s IMF-supported programs.

During the meetings with IMF First Deputy Managing Director Dan Katz, Deputy Managing Director Nigel Clarke, Middle East and Central Asia Department Director Jihad Azour, and Pakistan Mission Chief Iva Petrova, the finance minister reviewed Pakistan’s performance under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF), the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF), and the broader reform agenda.

Aurangzeb highlighted improvements in Pakistan’s fiscal and external accounts, achievement of revenue targets, stronger foreign exchange reserves, record workers’ remittances, and an improved current account balance.

He also briefed IMF officials on ongoing reforms in taxation, the energy sector, privatization, tariff rationalization, debt management, and efforts to diversify financing sources while returning to international capital markets.

The discussions also covered long-term economic priorities, including human capital development, greater participation of women in the workforce, demographic challenges, technology-driven growth, and building a private sector-led, export-oriented economy.

The finance minister thanked the IMF for recognizing Pakistan’s strong ownership of the reform program and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining fiscal discipline, implementing structural reforms, strengthening policy credibility, and pursuing long-term economic transformation.
