Sindh to Launch Women-Only E-Taxi Service With Female Drivers

The Sindh government will soon launch an electric taxi service operated by women drivers exclusively for female passengers, Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced.

Memon shared the development during a meeting with a high-level delegation from the British High Commission at his residence.

He said the planned service would provide women with a safer travel option while creating employment opportunities for female drivers.

According to the senior minister, the provincial government is also developing charging stations and other basic facilities to encourage investment in electric vehicles.

The announcement is part of the Sindh government’s broader efforts to improve women’s mobility and increase their participation in social and economic activities.

Memon said the government is already providing free pink electric scooters to working women and students. He added that the initiative would make travel easier for women and strengthen them economically and socially.

He also highlighted a major increase in the number of women applying for driving licenses in the province.

According to Memon, only around 450 women applied for driving licenses a few years ago. The number has now increased to 25,000.

He said the increase had helped challenge the traditional perception that women could not drive cars or motorcycles. He added that the Sindh government was providing equal opportunities for women to progress in every field.
