EPA Punjab Seals Famous Restaurant Over Plastic Bag Ban Violation

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab has sealed a branch of the popular Karachi Naseeb Biryani restaurant for allegedly violating the province’s Plastic-Free Punjab policy.

The action was announced by EPA Punjab through its official social media channels, where the department shared a public notice stating, “Say goodbye to single-use plastic. EPA Punjab stands firm for a Plastic-Free Punjab.”

According to the EPA, the restaurant was sealed for using prohibited single-use plastic products in violation of Punjab’s environmental regulations.

The move is part of the provincial government’s ongoing Plastic-Free Punjab campaign, which seeks to eliminate the use of single-use plastics and polythene bags thinner than 75 microns across the province.

Under the campaign, EPA Punjab has been conducting regular inspections and market raids, confiscating banned plastic products, and imposing penalties on businesses found violating the rules.

The ban is aimed at reducing plastic pollution, protecting wildlife, preventing soil contamination, and keeping drainage and water channels free from plastic waste.

Alongside enforcement, the Environment Protection Department has also introduced a digital registration system for plastic producers, collectors, and recyclers through its online portal as part of broader efforts to improve waste management.

EPA Punjab has urged businesses to comply with the province’s environmental laws by switching to eco-friendly alternatives, warning that strict action will continue against those found using banned plastic products.
